Top 10 Ways to keep the Brain Active and Young

There is a saying that goes like-”A healthy mind resides in a healthy body”
As cliché as this saying is, there is some truth behind it. However, because of the over indulgence with technology, junk food and the virtual world, us millennial  have started to be a bit forgetful before the time that we reach 25 years of age.
Top 10 Ways to keep the Brain Active and Young
Now, I can imagine you shirking your head disagreeably from right here! But you know what I say is true!

However, we are not saying that all is lost; for there are ways to keep your brain active at all times. So active in fact that you will be able to finish Sudoku in a significantly small time frame by the time you reach 80.

These are Top 10 ways to keep your brain active and young:

  • Stimulate your brain at all times: As you already might have noticed, your brain works better if you use it more. To that end, you must see and do things that can simulate your brain. From the top of my head, there are games that you can play such as Sudoku or crossword. However, if you are indeed a millennial like I am, you can get your stimulants to moderate amounts of video games as well. Stick to stealth games or fighting games for this matter.
  • Exercise regularly: Brain needs oxygen to stay alive, active and awake; and nothing gets that oxygen flowing than a 5 mile run or a high octane cardio. The more you exercise, the more oxygen is pumped to your brain and the more you will be able to use it properly.
  • Stick to brain foods: Now brain foods such as almonds, fruits, vegetables, fish and unsaturated fats help to make your brain stimulant at all times. They best part is that they are tasty as well as nutritious.
  • Keep your blood sugar in check:  If you are diabetic, chances are that you will develop dementia after a certain age. To that end, eat some candy if your sugar is low and refrain from the sweet stuff if the sugar is way too high.
  • Manage the Blood pressure:  Increased or decrease blood pressure will cause an eventual loss of cognitive functions when you come of age (by that I mean when you are past 60). Therefore, it would be better for you if you do everything in your power to make sure that you blood is always flowing at optimal velocity.
  • Avoid smoking or any other forms of in taking tobacco: Nothing good comes out when it comes to tobacco. If you smoke, lung cancer is on the door, if you chew, mouth cancer is on the door, if you swallow, stomach cancer is on the door. The increased dopamine activity that you feel after hitting a joint will drown your brain eventually.
  • Put a leash on your alcohol intake: Alcohol can be a major issue when it comes to the brain. Overconsumption eventually harms the brain enough to cause dementia. Therefore, if you drink, drink for small moments of recreation, not to quench your thirst.
  • Talk to someone: There is nothing worse than not communicating with someone. If you don’t, you eventually have to bury your thoughts and sooner than later, it can explode in the form of dementia, schizophrenia, or any other brain-related malice. Therefore, keep interacting with someone and maintain a healthy social circle.
  • Prevent head trauma at all costs: There is nothing more damaging than getting hit on the head.  You lose the sense of equilibrium, you might throw up and you can suffer some serious internal injuries that are irreparable for all intents and purposes. Therefore, watch your head.
  • Manage your cholesterol intake: LDL or bad cholesterol is mostly associated with a high risk of schizophrenia. Therefore, watching what you eat might save you hearing voices in the future.
